Eu3+ Luminescence in Two-Dimensional Sr2-2xEuxKxSnO4 with K2NiF4 Structure

Abstract
Luminescence of Eu3+ has been studied in Sr2-2xEuxKxSnO4 with two-dimensional K2NiF4 structure. The 5D0 ¡æ 7F0 emission line of Eu3+ ion represents the J=0 ¡æ J=0 transition which is forbidden by a Judd-Ofelt selection rule for electric dipole transition in 4f shell of Eu3+ ions. However, the emission line of 5D0 ¡æ 7F0 transition gains remarkably high intensity in Eu3+ emission spectra of Sr2-2xEuxKxSnO4. The transition of 5D0 ¡æ 7F0 is allowed due to distortion of local structure around Eu3+ ions.
